We understand that preparing to take the CDE® exam may be a little frightening, especially since many of us may not have taken an exam for years. But this journey can also be a time of tremendous personal and professional growth as you delve into the complexities of diabetes, from the pathophysiology to behavior change strategies.

What are the steps involved in becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE)?
According to the National Credentialing Board for Diabetes Education (NCBDE) you need to have your professional license for at least 2 years as a RN, RD, PT, PharmD, PA, MD (and others) plus accumulate 1000 hours of diabetes self-management teaching experience to take the CDE® exam. You also need to complete 15 hours of diabetes related continuing education within 2 years of taking the exam. See our articles and resources page for more info.
To prepare to suceed at the CDE® Exam and gain the required 15 Continuing Education Hours we recommend you:
Step 1. Attend our Level 2 - Diabetes Educator Course. This course will provide you with the critical information and confidence needed to become a CDE®. Our team of expert faculty has been fine tuning this course for over ten years, and we know what you need!
Step 2. If you can't attend our live seminars, we invite you to enroll in our Level 2 Online Courses which will provide you with selected on-demand diabetes presentations. And even if you do attend our live seminars, these online courses are an excellent review and reinforce key points.
Step 3. Join our FREE web clinic Preparing for the CDE® Exam which reviews the exam content, test taking strategies and sample test questions. We also offer a variety of other Free Webinars on diabetes topics that we invite you to join.
Step 4. Visit our Articles and Resources page, where you can download the CDE® Application Handbook published by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators and discover other tools and resources that will help you reach your goals.
