Critical Assessment of the Patient with Diabetes - 1.5 CE
This advanced level course includes a head-to-toe assessment of the patient with diabetes or hyperglycemia. Through case studies and real life situations, we discover often hidden causes of hyperglycemia and other complications. We also discuss management strategies for other conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis and Transplants, that are often associated with hyperglycemia. Join us for this unique and interesting approach to detecting the hidden complications of diabetes.

Objectives:

  • Identify common yet often under diagnosed complications associated with type 1 and type 2 diabetes
  • State strategies to identify previously undiscovered diabetes complications during patient assessments.

Insulin Pattern Management Gone Crazy - Part 2  - 1.5 CE

The goal of this program is to develop an improved understanding of managing glucose levels through insulin therapy. Learn about insulin dosing strategies, based on the patient assessment, insulin sensitivity and other considerations. Strategies to increase patients' comfort and knowledge about insulin therapy will also be discussed. Real patient data and issues are incorporated into each case study to increase real life application.

  • Explore the importance of patient assessment in determining a realistic dosing strategy.
  • Discuss strategies to initiate and modify insulin therapy with a focus on safety.

Patients with cancer often experience hyperglycemia secondary to treatment, which can increase risk of infection and compromise their nutritional status. In addition, recent research has identified the link between diabetes and cancer.
